Moving a piano is different from moving ordinary furniture. Its weight is concentrated in a compact frame, while the keyboard, pedals, legs, finish and internal components require careful handling. Trusty Moving plans piano relocations throughout Toronto and the GTA and can also include a piano in selected long-distance moves across the regions we serve.
Upright, Baby Grand and Grand Pianos
We move upright pianos, baby grands and grand pianos when the access conditions allow the move to be completed safely. Each type requires a different plan. Uprights are tall and weight-dense, while baby grand and grand pianos may require removal and protection of legs, pedals and other components before transport. Before confirming the job, we review the piano type, approximate dimensions, pickup and delivery access, and the route between the instrument and the truck.Piano Moving With Stairs
Stairs, narrow landings and sharp turns can change the equipment and number of movers required. A piano that fits through the entrance may still be difficult to turn at the top or bottom of a staircase. Photos and measurements help us determine whether the piano can remain upright or whether it must be carefully positioned on its side. We also check the number of steps, stair width, landing depth, ceiling height and railings before recommending a moving plan.Protection and Preparation
We use moving blankets, stretch wrap and suitable moving equipment according to the piano and access conditions. The route is reviewed with attention to floors, walls, door frames and railings. Loose or removable components are secured, and some pianos may need partial disassembly before transport and careful reassembly at the destination. Clear pathways and accurate access information help the crew work efficiently and reduce avoidable handling.Local and Long-Distance Piano Moving
Our local piano moving service covers Toronto and the GTA, including condo, apartment and house relocations. For longer routes, piano transportation may be available across Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, depending on scheduling and route feasibility. If the piano is part of a larger relocation, we can review the complete inventory together with the instrument. Learn more about our Toronto moving services. What We Need for an Estimate
To prepare an accurate plan, please send clear photos of the piano and the complete access route at both locations.- Piano type and approximate dimensions
- Pickup and delivery addresses
- Photos of entrances, hallways and stairs
- Number of steps and landing measurements
- Elevator and loading-area details
- Your preferred moving date
Planning Challenging Access
Narrow doors, outdoor pathways, tight corners and split staircases should be reviewed before moving day. We compare the piano dimensions with the available turning space and consider how the instrument can be controlled throughout the route. If the photos do not show the available space clearly, we may request additional measurements. This allows the crew, equipment and schedule to match the actual conditions. What Happens on Moving Day
When the crew arrives, we confirm the access route and compare it with the information provided during booking. The piano is prepared and protected before it is moved from its original position. The team controls the instrument through doorways, hallways, stairs or elevators and secures it inside the vehicle for transportation. At the destination, we review the final route before unloading. The piano is placed in the agreed room and any components removed for transportation are carefully reattached. Because every property and instrument is different, the exact process may vary according to the piano type and access conditions.Piano Moves Completed by Trusty Moving
