How Much Does It Cost to Move a Piano in Toronto?
Trusty Moving’s piano moving prices start at $400 for an upright piano, $550 for a baby grand and $750 for a grand piano.

Trusty Moving’s piano moving prices start at $400 for an upright piano, $550 for a baby grand and $750 for a grand piano. These starting prices apply to standard access with up to three steps at each location. The distance between the pickup and delivery locations affects the final price.
Additional steps, a basement or a second-floor move require an assessment from photographs before a price is confirmed. A starting price is therefore a useful reference, not a substitute for reviewing your instrument and the complete access route.
This guide explains what to send for a fixed-price quote, how stairs and tight turns affect the assessment, and how to prepare without attempting the heavy handling yourself. Contact 437-441-2393 or trustymoving@gmail.com, Monday–Sunday, 8:00 AM–7:00 PM.
Piano moving starting prices in Toronto
| Piano type | Starting price | Base access conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Upright piano | From $400 | Standard access; up to three steps at each location |
| Baby grand | From $550 | Standard access; up to three steps at each location |
| Grand piano | From $750 | Standard access; up to three steps at each location |
These are Trusty Moving’s approved starting prices. More steps, basement access and second-floor moves are priced after photo assessment. Distance between the locations also affects the final price. Send the pickup and delivery information before treating a starting figure as the total for your move.
The allowance refers to each location, so describe the steps at both ends. Do not combine the two properties into one unexplained total. Photographs are still useful for standard access because they show doorway openings, turns and the route between the entrance and the loading position.
Piano type is the beginning of the assessment
An upright, baby grand and grand have different shapes and handling requirements. Identify the instrument as accurately as you can. If you are unsure of the category, send clear photographs and any available model information instead of choosing the least expensive row in the table.
Share dimensions and available weight information
Provide the instrument’s dimensions, along with manufacturer information if you have it. A model label or purchase document may help identify it. Do not attempt to weigh or lift a piano to supply a number. If the weight is unknown, say so and send the details that are available.
The dimensions are relevant to doorways and turns as well as transport. A grand piano’s length alone does not describe the space around it or the opening through which it must pass. Include photographs showing the instrument in its room, with the route to the exit visible.
Describe the instrument’s current condition
Tell us about a loose component, unstable support or another condition you already know about. Moving does not replace an instrument inspection or repair. If you have concerns about its condition, discuss them before the date is agreed so they can be considered during the access and handling review.
Our Piano Moving Toronto service page explains the service overview. Your quote still needs the details of your own instrument rather than assumptions based on another piano of the same general type.
Stairs and turns can change the plan
For access involving more than three steps at either location, a basement or a second floor, send photographs for assessment. Show the entire staircase and each landing. A close-up of one step does not reveal the turn, ceiling clearance or space available to change direction.
Photograph the staircase from the bottom and the top when you can do so safely. Include handrails, door frames and other fixed features. Provide useful measurements without moving the piano toward the stairs to test the route yourself.
Count every step on the route
Outdoor entrance steps and interior stairs should both be described. If there is a step between the hallway and the piano room, include it. Tell us about thresholds and changes in level rather than assuming they are irrelevant because they are not a full flight of stairs.
Check the destination as carefully as the pickup
The piano may leave a straightforward room and arrive at a much tighter property. Show the intended delivery room, the entrance and the route between them. If a seller is providing pickup photographs, obtain separate information from the destination rather than relying on the seller’s description of the move.
Elevators need access information, not just a floor number
If an elevator is involved, confirm the building’s moving process with management. Ask which elevator can be used, how it is reserved and what loading entrance serves it. Share the reservation window and relevant access instructions when requesting the quote.
Provide the available elevator opening and interior dimensions if management can supply them. Include corridor turns and the path between the loading position and elevator. An elevator in the building does not by itself establish that the complete piano route is suitable.
Keep building instructions separate from your assumptions about ordinary deliveries. Piano transport needs to fit the actual access arrangements on the day. Tell us if the loading area or entrance is shared and whether access depends on a concierge or another contact being available.
Distance affects the final piano moving price
Supply both locations when requesting a quote, including the correct city for each. The final price depends partly on the distance between them. A move within one neighbourhood and a trip between different GTA cities should not be treated as the same route simply because the instrument is unchanged.
Trusty Moving accepts piano moving enquiries involving Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan and Scarborough. You can also ask about a route involving Hamilton. Give the full pickup and delivery information so the journey can be assessed with the access.
If there are extra stops or a different intended delivery location, include them before the quote is confirmed. A fixed-price request should describe the complete trip, not leave an additional collection to be introduced on moving day.
What to send for an accurate fixed-price quote
A useful enquiry gives us enough information to review the instrument, handling route and journey together. Start with:
- Piano type, brand or model information, and dimensions if available.
- Photographs of the whole instrument and its current position.
- Pickup and delivery locations, with the city identified for each.
- Steps and floor levels at both properties.
- Pictures of doorways, staircases, landings and tight turns.
- Elevator information and building reservations, where relevant.
- The route from each entrance to the proposed loading position.
- Your preferred date and any flexibility.
- Known condition concerns or access details still awaiting confirmation.
If something is unclear, mark it as unknown. The purpose of photo assessment is to resolve the route before a price is confirmed, not to reward the shortest description. A clear sequence of photographs can be more useful than many images of the same part of the instrument.
Ask for written confirmation of the fixed price and the scope it covers. Review the described instrument, route, access and preparation. If the destination, stairs or other material details change, contact us before the move and ask for the revised arrangement to be confirmed.
Prepare the room without moving the piano yourself
Clear loose belongings from the route and remove objects resting on or immediately beside the piano. Keep sheet music, personal possessions and small accessories together so they do not become loose items during the move. Show the intended position at the destination in advance.
Do not dismantle the instrument or begin lifting it to help unless specific preparation has been agreed. Explain any concern about a lid, pedal assembly, support or other component, and ask what should be ready before arrival. Preparation responsibilities should be clear before you act.
If the route passes through shared spaces, coordinate entry and keep the agreed path available. Have keys and building contacts with you. Avoid filling the destination room with other deliveries before the piano arrives, particularly if the available turning space is limited.
Why moving a piano yourself can create avoidable risk
A piano combines substantial weight with a shape that can be difficult to control through a doorway or on a change in level. The problem is not solved by having enough people to push it. A route needs to be assessed, and the instrument needs a considered handling plan.
Do not treat small wheels on an instrument as proof that it is ready to travel over thresholds or down steps. Avoid testing a difficult turn by moving the piano into it. If it becomes trapped or unstable, the situation is harder to assess than when the instrument remains in its original position.
Steinway’s buyer guidance recommends professional piano movers for relocation. That is a general handling recommendation, not a claim that Trusty Moving is affiliated with the manufacturer. Discuss your piano with us and keep questions about tuning or instrument servicing for an appropriate piano technician.
Confirm the move before coordinating other arrangements
Before relying on a date, confirm the booking and any outstanding access information. If you are purchasing a piano, agree who will provide pickup access and who will be present. The person at the destination should know which room is intended and have the necessary keys or fobs.
Do not assume that a starting price also confirms availability. Price assessment and scheduling need to be settled for the specific move. If your timing or access changes, tell us promptly so the plan can be reviewed before the instrument is due to leave.
